PSA: Industry Canada permits hams to remove address from online database

IC permits hams to request that their address not be posted in the online databases,  Of course, you still have to give them your mailing address and keep it updated, and redacting a current address will still leave it mirrored across other sites on the Internet).

callsign application has had a "do not publish" checkbox for years.

New and Old Regulations and Policies
I am moving.  What are my obligations to Industry Canada and the Amateur Radio Service Centre (ARSC)?

When you are moving to a new address within the same province notify the ARSC by requesting a "change of amateur address" which can be found on the Amateurs and Clubs page. If you are moving out of province and will no longer be retaining an address in the province of your call sign, request a "change of amateur province" which can be found on the Amateurs and Clubs page.
A new call sign will be issued to you for the appropriate province free of charge and your call sign for the former province will be made available for reassignment.  If you have addresses in two different provinces, you may hold call signs in those two provinces, as long as an address is provided for each province and each call sign. Please contact the ARSC if you have addresses in two different provinces.

* Even if you have addresses in two different provinces you may not hold more than one two-letter call sign.

How do I notify IC of my address change?
How do I notify Industry Canada and the Amateur Radio Service Centre (ARSC) of my address change?

Once you have created a user account, you will be able to request a change of amateur or club address which can be found on the Amateurs and Clubs page.

Do I have to have my home address appear on the online amateur database? You must give a valid address when applying for your first call sign and keep us up to date on your address as it changes. If you do not want your address information to appear online on our website, please update your disclosure information by selecting "Request a Change of Amateur Address" on the Amateurs and Clubs page.

I too subscribe to the doctrine of, "Peace through superior firepower".
That said, actually using said firepower should always be an absolute last resort and, as DrMcMeow stated, people should be able to deal rationally with one another and be in control of their emotions but as he should also know, plenty of people are not so capable.

I don't remember seeing it on the form you fill out, but its been available on the website when you log in for as long as I've been a ham (2 years).

Both IC and the FCC should have followed the UK's lead and had no public databases at all; giving out your real name with your call should be your decision and your decision only. Misuse of the FCC's public database by amateurs looking for trouble - either through Internet-facilitated defamation/harassment, or through acts that have led to criminal charges - is an all too real problem.
